What is a static QR code?

A static QR code stores your content directly in its pattern: the web address, the text, the WiFi details. When someone scans it, their phone reads that content straight from the code. No server sits in between, so the code works without this website.

Does a static QR code expire?

No. The content is part of the pattern itself, so there is nothing to switch off. A static code keeps working as long as the printed image is readable. If it points to a web page, that page does need to stay online.

Can I create a QR code for free?

Yes. Every type and design option on mqrlink is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many codes you make or download.

Can I change a static QR code later?

No. Once it is printed, a static code always contains the same content. If the details might change, point the code to a web page you control, then update that page instead. Or create a new code.

Can I track static QR scans?

Not with the code itself. A static code opens your content directly, so nobody (including us) can count its scans. If you need numbers, send people to your own web page and read that page's analytics, for example with a UTM tag on the link.

What information can a QR code contain?

Up to about 2,900 characters of text in one code. That can be a web address, plain text, an email or SMS draft, a phone number, WiFi login details, a contact card (vCard), a location, a calendar event or a link to a file.

Can I add a logo?

Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG, SVG or WebP logo in step 2. It is placed in the centre, the dots behind it are cleared, and error correction is raised to H so the code still scans. Keep the logo under about a quarter of the code's width.

Can I download SVG?

Yes. Open the download menu and choose SVG. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which makes it the best choice for printing on posters, packaging and signs.

Do you see or store what I type?

No. The code is generated by JavaScript in your browser. Your content, WiFi passwords and logos are never sent to our server, and we keep no database of codes.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

A static code stores your content directly and works forever without a server. A dynamic code stores a short link to a service that forwards people to your content; you can edit it and count scans, but it stops working if that service or your subscription ends. mqrlink makes static codes only.

Which file should I download for printing?

SVG, if your printer or design tool accepts it, because it stays sharp at any size. Otherwise download a PNG at 2048 px or larger.

How big should I print a QR code?

A useful rule is that the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance. For a flyer read from 30 cm, 3 cm is enough; for a poster read from 2 m, aim for 20 cm. Denser codes need more room.

What does error correction mean?

It is extra data that lets a phone read the code even if part of it is dirty, damaged or covered by a logo. Level L recovers about 7%, M 15%, Q 25% and H 30%. Higher levels make the code denser.

Why does my code not scan?

The usual causes are low contrast (light dots or a dark background), a logo that is too big, a missing quiet zone around the code, printing too small, or a glossy surface with glare. Our warnings catch the first three before you download.

Can I use the codes for business?

Yes. The codes you create are yours to use for personal or commercial purposes, including on products and packaging.

Does the generator work offline?

Yes, once the page has loaded. Code generation needs no internet connection because it runs entirely in your browser.

What does "Clear saved preferences" do?

We remember your theme, last QR type and design settings in your browser's local storage so you do not have to set them again. That button deletes them. We never store your QR content, WiFi passwords or contact details.

How much text fits in a QR code?

The plain text type accepts up to 3,000 characters, but a code that long is very dense and needs to be printed large. For anything people will scan from a poster or a card, keep it under a few hundred characters, or put the text on a web page and link to it instead.

What is the quiet zone?

The empty margin around the code. Phones use it to find the edges of the pattern. Our downloads include it, so do not crop it away or place the code hard against a border, photo or text.

Can I use my own colors?

Yes. You can change the dot color, the background and the corner squares, and use a gradient. Keep the dots much darker than the background; the generator shows the contrast ratio and warns you when it drops too low. Light dots on a dark background scan poorly on many phones.

Can I make the background transparent?

Yes, for PNG, SVG and WebP downloads. JPG does not support transparency, so a JPG is saved with a white background. A transparent code takes the color of whatever it is placed on, so check the contrast there too.

How big can the download be?

Choose 256, 512, 1024 or 2048 px, or type any size between 128 and 4096 px. SVG has no fixed size and can be scaled as large as you need without losing sharpness.

Why is my WiFi code not connecting?

Check that the network name is typed exactly as it appears, including capital letters, and that the security type matches your router. WPA2 is right for most home and office networks. Some older phones do not support WiFi codes at all and will show the details as text instead.

Can I create a QR code for a PDF, image or video?

Yes, but the file itself does not fit inside a code. Upload it to your website, Google Drive, Dropbox or a video platform, make sure the link is public, and put that link in the code. If the file is later moved or deleted, the code stops working.

Can I scan a code from a screenshot?

Yes. Open the scanner, choose "Upload an image" and pick the screenshot or photo. The image is decoded on your device and is not uploaded.

Does the scanner work on a laptop?

Yes. It can use a laptop webcam, and it can read a code from an uploaded image. The browser will ask for camera permission the first time.

Do I need to credit mqrlink?

No. There is no watermark and no attribution requirement, for personal or commercial use.

What happens to my codes if this website shuts down?

Nothing. A static code contains your data directly, not a link to our servers, so every code you have already made keeps scanning. Only the generator itself would be unavailable.
